Felicity Burgis Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Felicity is a creative and supportive speech and language therapy assistant who is able to draw on her wealth of experience working in education to best support children in mainstream and SEN settings.

Prior to joining the SLT for Kids team, Felicity has worked in a variety of education settings as an HLTA and trainee teacher. Her particular passion is in finding ways to support children and young people with complex communication needs and sensory processing difficulties, their families and those who support them in school.

Felicity has also worked as a music teacher in a mainstream primary school, using music as a means of creative expression for children with communication difficulties.

Felicity then went on to teach in an SEN college setting where she taught young people with a diagnosis of ASC a curriculum that prioritised independence, life skills and functional communication skills. Felicity then moved to work in Early Years, teaching children with complex needs, it is here that she worked collaboratively with Speech Therapists and this is what inspired her to explore Speech Therapy as a career by becoming a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant.

Felicity is able to use her experience working in various educational settings to build positive relationships with staff and children alike. Her experience teaching also gives her insight in to how to embed speech and language strategies in to the classroom and the curriculum.

Felicity is able to consider the holistic needs of the whole child to deliver effective and engaging intervention. She is able to use sensory preferences and special interests in her sessions to ensure the child is happy and well supported.

Felicity is currently working in mainstream and specialist primary and secondary schools alongside Speech and Language Therapists in order to provide high impact Universal, Targeted and Specialist input.
