“Schools, including early years providers, and post-16 settings can be commissioners in their own right. Schools have a notional SEN budget and many schools will commission services (such as speech and language therapy, pastoral care and counselling services) to support pupils.”
How can our services be funded?
Our dedicated speech and language therapy services can be funded by each educational setting in a number of ways. We are able to demonstrate the impact our services have on each child, ensuring we are constantly working towards improving the school's needs by providing an efficient and cost effective service.
Schools fund our services from the following budgets:
Element 1, 2 & 3 funding
Element 1 funding is provided to meet the needs of all students within the school. This is based on the number of pupils that attend the school and can fund training and other whole school approaches. Element 2 funding is based on the predicted number of children in the education setting with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND). This is called the national SEND budget and can be sued for more targeted interventions and training that can benefit children with specific needs. Element 3 funding is provided to cover the intervention and support needed for children with education, health and care (EHC) plans. Our speech and language therapists can be funded to work within your school by each funding element depending on the needs of each setting.
Pupil premium
Pupil premium is additional funding that education settings receive based on the number of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities. The funding can be used to raise their attainment and to close the educational gap between them and their peers. Our speech and language therapy services can be funded by pupil premium.
Looked after status
The term ‘looked after’ refers to a child that is under supervision by a local authority under court order or through an arrangement made with the child’s parents. Schools receive funding based on the number of looked after children in attendance in order to help them achieve to their highest ability. Our speech and language therapists can be funded by looked after status funding.
