Emily Craven Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

I am a warm, friendly and caring character with a bubbly and outgoing personality. I am passionate about providing a holistic approach to children’s development through speech and language therapy. My journey in childcare began in private day nurseries, taking on the role of baby room lead, holiday club lead, and before/after school club lead.

Alongside this, I was also studying for my degree in Early Years and Childhood Studies at the University of Bolton. It was completing my degree that highlighted my passion for having a positive contribution to children’s learning and development. I later left the private day nursery sector and began working in mainstream primary schools as a SEN TA. This is where my love for speech and language therapy blossomed as I widened my knowledge across the SEN, education and development sector.

I can effectively build and maintain strong professional relationships with children, their families and those supporting them. I can successfully embed myself as part of a team to ensure a multi-disciplinary team approach, best supporting children to reach their individual personal needs.

I am extremely ambitious and driven and will work hard to obtain my desired achievements. I am hoping to use the knowledge and experience gained at SLT for kids to assist with my further studies in becoming a fully qualified speech and language therapist.

What inspired you to become a Paediatric Speech and Language assistant?

I was first introduced to speech and language therapy when working as SEN TA in a mainstream primary school. It was within this role that I truly realized the importance of speech and language therapy and the huge impact that therapy can have on a child’s learning and development. I completed various therapy sessions with children with a variety of additional needs under the supervision of the therapist. I knew then that speech and language therapy would be the correct career for me. I am hoping to continue my studies further to become a fully qualified speech and language therapist.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family. We are a large family and enjoy days out together at parks and the seaside. I also volunteer at my local Girl Guiding Brownie Unit. I have been volunteering there for over 10 years and have had some great times on residential holidays and day trips.
