Emily Craven Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

Emily is a warm, friendly and caring character with a bubbly and outgoing personality. Emily is passionate about providing a holistic approach to children’s development and believes speech and language therapy should be a fun experience for all. Emily’s journey in childcare began in private day nurseries, before moving on to primary education and now speech and language therapy here at SLT for Kids.

Emily obtained her degree in Early years and Childhood studies in 2019. This is where her passion for speech and language developed as she saw firsthand the impact that speech and language interventions can make to a children’s life and educational journey. Emily has a wide range of experience when working with children and this is evident within her practise.

Emily is an energetic and joyful therapist who makes every session engaging and fulfilling for all involved. Emily brings an element of fun and surprise to speech and language therapy. Emily tailors each session to best fit the needs of each individual child and also considers the needs of the wider family. Emily possesses a natural warmth and friendliness, enabling her to establish and uphold robust professional connections with children, their families and the adults who provide support to them.

Emily currently is working in our primary and secondary schools, and works with children and families within our clinic service.

What inspired you to become a Paediatric Speech and Language assistant?

I was first introduced to speech and language therapy when working as SEN TA in a mainstream primary school. It was within this role that I truly realized the importance of speech and language therapy and the huge impact that therapy can have on a child’s learning and development. I completed various therapy sessions with children with a variety of additional needs under the supervision of the therapist. I knew then that speech and language therapy would be the correct career for me. I am hoping to continue my studies further to become a fully qualified speech and language therapist.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family. We are a large family and enjoy days out together at parks and the seaside. I also volunteer at my local Girl Guiding Brownie Unit. I have been volunteering there for over 10 years and have had some great times on residential holidays and day trips.
