Speech therapist assistants
Our Speech and Language therapy assistants (SLTAs) are experienced in supporting communication many of which are working towards a speech and language therapy degree. Often, they are completing their Speech and Language Therapy training and are eager to use their training to help your children in school.
Do you need our help?
We provide assistant support for children and young people with SLCN (Speech, Language and Communication Needs), this support can be provided 1 to 1 or as part of a group. We work in:
- Early years
- Primary schools
- Secondary schools
An STLA may support:
- Children already known to speech therapy with SMART targets/communication IEP.
- Children who staff feel need extra support to make progress with communication and/or on waiting list for SLT.
- Our SLTAs work within early years, but are able to work within all age ranges.
What are the benefits?
Increasing support for children with speech, language and communication difficulties will have a significant positive impact on your children’s ability to access all academic and social activities across the school curriculum. Your children will make progress with their IEPs and any difficulties in accessing targets will be raised swiftly leading to a better outcome for the child. The SLTA will form a trusting relationship with your children, the parents and your staff and will make therapy sessions fun and engaging. The parent will see how their child has received additional input and support to improve the development of their child within school.
Assessment
Our Speech and Language Therapy Assistants (SLTA) are able to provide both individual and group therapy sessions. Our Senior Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) will be able to support the SLTA in screening communication skills, setting treatment goals and planning intervention groups.
Intervention
Speech and Language Therapy input will be tailored to your School’s needs. SLTA’s can work flexibly dependent on the resources that are used and what you would like your provision to be. It may include a combination of:
- Group interventions.
- One-to-one therapy.
If your school is planning on investing in Talkboost or Wellcomm, we can provide training and support your setting using it.
Please note, SLTA’s are unable to complete assessment, for an up to date assessment and report, please click here to contact us.
An SLTA is equipped to carry out group interventions supporting attention and listening, narrative, early language skills and social skills.
All therapy will be under the supervision of SLT from SLTforKids or following a pre-set IEP from NHS Speech therapist. SLTAs are equipped to carry out a range of communication groups with children that you have identified need some extra support with their communication.
