Our speech and language therapists at SLT for Kids are able to provide specialist voice services for children involved in the performing arts. We can offer assessments, treatment and reviews. Our treatment will be tailored to individual goals but may include accent and pitch modification, confidence training or presentation skills.
Our treatment can benefit any child looking to improve their communication or voice skills during their performances or auditions. All of our therapy is tailored to each child based on their goals, we offer advice and education on voice for performances from a specialist speech and language therapist expertise.
Services we offer for performing arts
At SLT for Kids we can offer assessment, treatment, reviews, advice and education to children who feel they would benefit from voice intervention who are involved in performing arts. All of our services are tailored to the individual's goals and are delivered by a specialist speech and language therapist. Our services are flexible and can take place in the clinic, home or education setting as well as online, over Skype.
Our speech and language therapists will initially assess your child, this will be to identify their voice skills and determine their goals. We will then set a treatment option based on the outcome of assessment working towards the goals of your child. Services include:
Accent training
Our speech and language therapists can provide accent training to children in performing arts who feel they would benefit from accent reduction or modification in order to succeed in certain roles. We can help make your accent more neutral or more ‘British’ in order for you to achieve the accent you wish to be heard. Our specialist speech and language therapist will be able to use pitch, intonation and volume exercises and strategies in order for you to modify your accent in certain situations.
Pitch therapy
Our specialist speech and language therapist at SLT for Kids is able to provide exercises and strategies to help you modify your pitch in order to succeed in certain situations within the performing arts settings. We are able to provide therapy based on your goals in order for you to achieve the voice you would like to be heard. Your pitch can be modified for certain situations in order to sound higher, lower or less monotone than usual.
Confidence training
We are able to offer confidence training for children in the performing arts to help increase their confidence and self-esteem when using their voice. Our confidence training will involve a mixture of exercises to help them achieve stronger voice use and more assertive use of body language. In depth discussions with our specialist speech and language therapist in terms of your goals and needs will also help children gain confidence when using their voice for performance.
Presentation skills
Presentation skills therapy can help anyone in the performing arts with auditions or interviews to increase their confidence and chance of success. The therapy will be delivered by our specialist voice speech and language therapist and will provide techniques and strategies to improve voice use when presenting to others and improve their chances of success within the performing arts.
Advice and education
Our speech and language therapists are able to educate any child, parent or teacher in any aspects of healthy voice use. We can provide advice on vocal hygiene techniques and training on how to look after your voice for professional voice users, like performers.
