Q&A

What inspired you to become a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist?

My younger brother attended a Specialist school for ASD. At a young age, I remember going to a parent and family information session at his school one evening- this is the first time I met a Speech and Language Therapist. I found the session really enjoyable and informative and asked if I could do some work experience there when I was High School age. I absolutely loved every minute- all the activities play-based so the pupils really enjoyed all the work we did with them. I was sold on the idea that I could make a real difference to children and families through Speech and Language Therapy.

Is there a speech, language, communication or swallowing condition you enjoy working with the most?

I love working with a variety of children as it means I’m consistently learning and get to be creative! I really enjoy working with children who have a diagnosis of ASD though as I find it really rewarding! Whether I’m targeting functional communication skills to support them to get their needs met or social communication skills, I can make a real difference to the child’s wellbeing!

What do you like doing in your spare time?

My absolute favourite thing to do is to go out to restaurants- pasta is my favourite! I also love going to the gym to burn off all the pasta I eat and stay fit and healthy. I really love going to the cinema to watch movies with a large bowl of popcorn! Scary movies are my favourite.

What is your favourite thing about being a speech and language therapist with SLT for Kids?

I love working as part of such a skilled team- I learn so much from my colleagues. We have frequently opportunities to shadow each other, giving us the opportunity to work with different client groups and get some fresh ideas for our own caseloads!
