Training for professionals
At SLT for Kids we understand the importance of educating others about speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). Speech, language and communication needs are often referred to as a hidden disability, this is because it’s not visible to others and can often go undetected or unnoticed in children. Children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) often learn to hide their difficulties.
It is quite common for children who have SLCN to present with secondary behaviours such as:
- Behavioural difficulties.
- Being disruptive.
- Being aggressive in order to avoid a situation or conversation.
- Being very quiet and compliant.
- Appearing rude or inappropriate.
These secondary behaviours can often cover up or deflect attention from the speech, language and communication needs children are experiencing. Children can then develop labels and often go undiagnosed. It is therefore important to educate other professionals who work with children with speech, language and communication needs about the difficulties children may present with, how to identify SLCN and strategies that may help the child.
We provide a variety of training for a range of professionals who work with children with SLCN or those who would like to increase their knowledge around SLCN.
